HISTORY OF THE SHEPHERD PARK CHAPTER #2667
It was back in 1974 when a group of enthusiastic individuals composed of recent retirees and members of the Northminister Senior Citizens Organization led by Pearl Witherite met in the social hall at Northminister Presbyterian Church on Alaska Avenue NW. They organized the chapter in keeping with the concepts and constitution of the parent body. The Chapter received its chartering in 1976 with a membership of 40 persons. Since 1976, we have expanded our membership to as many as 200 and to our current number of 163 which includes 61 inactive members. We maintain contact with those who are on our inactive list. Our chapter has been under the leadership of very capable members, who are listed below.
From the beginning and throughout, Shepherd Park AARP Chapter 2667 has been vigilant about the motto of the American Association of Retired Persons: “To Serve and Not Be Served.” The organization has provided opportunities for fellowship, fun, learning and recreation and has engaged in various community activities.
We want this heritage passed on to the current members and those members yet to come, who we hope will add and enhance even more grand accomplishments to enrich the lives of its members and the community.
